R&D Opportunity in Test Equipment Design – Lyon

INAUTALENT is supporting an innovative small company specialising in subsurface energy, based north of Lyon, as it strengthens its technical teams.

A recognised player in applied R&D on geomaterials, the company works on high-stakes projects: geothermal energy, oil, gas and CO₂ storage. Its activity is built entirely on research and development: laboratory testing, geomechanics and the design of custom test equipment for international clients. ISO 9001 certified, it relies on a multidisciplinary and multicultural team to develop technological solutions that serve efficiency, the environment and the energy transition.

As part of the development of its new equipment, a key position is now open:

R&D Engineer – Test Equipment Design (M/F)

📍 North of Lyon, Neuville-sur-Saône (69), France | Permanent contract

Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the design, development and validation of high-temperature, high-pressure test cells, a strategic topic for the company and its clients. In a small, close-knit organisation, you will follow your developments from end to end, from design through to laboratory testing, before handing them over to the production team.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Design new test cells and test devices for high-temperature and high-pressure conditions

  • Solve the related technical challenges: instrumentation and sensors, sealing, temperature and pressure resistance

  • Consult suppliers and subcontractors, and monitor the manufacturing of parts

  • Assemble your equipment and carry out validation tests in the laboratory (around 20 to 30% of your time)

  • Hand over validated equipment to the production team and support them as they get up to speed

  • Write technical documentation in French and English, and contribute to drafting patents

Profile sought:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent Master’s-level qualification in mechanical engineering, design, instrumentation or physical measurement

  • Around 5 years of experience in equipment design, in a design office or in R&D. More junior profiles with significant initial experience in design will also be considered

  • Experience with equipment subject to temperature or pressure constraints is a real plus

  • Strong command of mechanical design and CAD software

  • Knowledge of instrumentation, sensors and measurement techniques

  • Understanding of physical and physico-chemical quantities

  • Professional English, both spoken and written

  • Autonomy, rigour and a hands-on mindset: you enjoy designing your equipment as much as testing it yourself

Why join this company?

  • Rare technical challenges: sealing, sensors, high temperature and high pressure, in service of subsurface energy and the energy transition

  • End-to-end ownership: you follow your equipment from design to validation

  • Direct impact: your developments are used in R&D projects carried out for international clients

  • A human-sized team: a multicultural environment where every development counts
